It certainly is the greatest revelation ever made to the mario series (one that 3d world tried to keep with it's cat suit). Level designs could be completely disjointed without rhyme or reason because of Space.Īrguably it's probably one of the greatest Mario games ever made. Now, I'm gushing about what a huge step just putting that change was to the game play, but what about what the game did to scenarios? Like, hooo-leee crap.
It was the biggest step forward the series had taken because of how such a simple mechanic changed the way you played it, arguably the biggest change in a video game's inherent style since the 3d jump. And now a days it just makes sense, but holy heck what a revelation in platforming: MARIO IN SPACE!Īnd look what they did with it: they blended 2d and 3d into the level design, used gravity and powers to create new possibility. The man's collected stars, walked on cloud on stary nights, and even used a water.jetpack-thing(No hate, I'm just saying that it's a really weird branch to go to when Space hasn't even been tried yet). Like, it's the one fresh element that it seems so obvious that it's confusing how it took so long. To it's credit, Nintendo is really REALLY good about not coming out with more than one core series Mario game in a style per console: You may get 4 Mario Parties, but you only get at most one 3d and one 2d mario per console(NES excluded).
